Education in America

Stole the pic from my buddy Craig "We The Libertarians" which I think came from elsewhere!!!  Who knows, libertarians don't much care for copyrights, we freely share.

Craig asked a group of us on facebook to give ideas on how we could change education.  Here is my response.  Realizing that not one size fits all is the first step. There are two ideas I've run across recently that I really like. One is a twist on the homeschooling (which I love) and that is the parents that have room and patience to take on more than just their own children can contract with other parents in the area that want the benefits of home schooling. Another is from a Harvard professor who is advocating for a return to a community based version of the old school "room", where a much smaller group of children are taught in one room. The older children help the younger and help the teachers which would also be a smaller group. Helps to eliminate the bully aspect so many are subject to, is cheaper than federally funded applications and much easier to adapt to the needs of the children. We certainly do not need the federal department of education as they have spent billions of our tax dollars in addition to the actual costs of the schools and have given zero benefit in return.

Craig's thoughts: I didn't interpret this meme as to say that teachers are conspiring to indoctrinate children. I understood it to imply that the ed system is set up to do so. I feel the meme would have been too complex to make a point regarding indoctrination, if it were to go into the whole complex system so, the artist simplified. A public school teacher is bound by a curriculum, as I'm sure you know, and that's what I was interpreting from the thought bubble. "why do you believe that?!", you ask? Well, mainly because I think the notion of a nation wide conspiracy of teachers, attempting to distort the minds of our country's youth for a minimal amount of pay, is quite a ridiculous notion. It's way above their pay grade.

The indoctrination programs in our public schools coupled with the technology of our day makes the spread occur at greater speed. So, here is the Marxist checklist. How are we doing????

1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.

2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.

3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.

4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.

5. Centralisation of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.

6. Centralisation of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State.

7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the bringing into cultivation of waste-lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.

8. Equal liability of all to work. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.

9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of all the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the populace over the country.

10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children’s factory labour in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production.

Take NOTE of Item 10!

I would suggest as a hypothesis that the more money we have put in government schools the following relationships occur:

Increase in teenage pregnancy

Increase in serious violence in schools

Decrease in literacy

Increase in drop outs

Increase in teenage drug abuse

Increase in teenage alcohol abuse

My apologies for reposting from another blog but it has relevance to the discussion here:

Before we had public schools, the literacy rate in Massachusetts and other New England states was close to 97%, prior to 1850. Arguably, the greatest sense of individualism flourished during that time. People could carry out all sorts of mathematical computations mentally. The people that created this country were home-schooled and established the brightest people we had in the world. At that time, education was integrated. There were no artificial age boundaries. Discovery was a treasured commodity to be exercised every day. People learned at a quicker pace, in line with their developmental process. I grew up in a one-room school and learned in the old classical approach. These "ignorant" natives are very eager to learn.

Fast forward to today. How many can carry out simple math in the their head? When the cash register rings up $4.97 and you hand the kid $5.02 what happens? Try asking one of them to give you the answer for 7 times 29 and what happens? Pull out a calculator. And if the battery is dead? Well, 7 times 20 and 7 times 9. I mean Welcome To Finland!!! What happened to 7 times 30 subtract 7? People no longer understand Math! They are taught to do it the same way every time. They were never allowed to explore the landscape from different angles and discover for themselves. WHY?!?!?!?!? Because they might discover they are INDIVIDUALS capable of reason and personal discovery.

Ever wonder why public schools keep home-schooled children out of all their activities? Because the public institutions cannot tolerate being shown as the failures they are. Worth pondering:

"The impact of homeschooling in these academic competitions goes beyond students who win. Although homeschoolers make up approximately 2 percent of the U.S. school-age population, they made up 12 percent of the 251 spelling bee finalists and 5 percent of the 55 geography bee finalists. Three of the past seven spelling bee winners have been homeschooled. Last year's homeschooled winner of the geography bee was 10 years old, the youngest in that event's history."

Kids in public institutions are INDOCTRINATED! The academic subjects are atomized and marginalized into unrelated segments. Math and Chemistry are totally different subjects in our public schools. How about Math and Music? Are they not related? I was criticized by a public school Math teacher once because I asked him for the COS of 45. All I wanted was .707. THE IMBECILE HAD TO LOOK IT UP!

Children are taught to form up in segregated age groups, march at the sound of the bell. Never question the teacher in the classroom! They must sit quietly in their seats and memorize nonsensical exercises that destroys the whole interconnected nature of learning. All for one reason. THEY MUST LEARN TO BECOME GOOD SUBJECTS OF THE COLLECTIVE!

Some children graduate and go on to become successful despite this trash. But today, for those really bright kids who really want to learn? We label them ADD and we drug them with Ritalin, a gate-way drug to cocaine. So the really smart minds of our society are ferreted out because they can cause problems for a lock-step collective. We drug them to control them and burn them out. Finally, if we cannot drug them sufficiently, we lock them up as deviants in mental institutions.

The time is coming my friend. Look around you. Drop out rates are at an astounding high level today. Children are becoming more and more suicidal and depressed. (Notice that the mass shootings in schools happen in public schools) And our society just drugs them more. We are no longer free physically or mentally. And the liberals know this.

The time for a blood bath of a rebellion is coming. Again and again through-out the history of this planet it has been shown that the more and more a government squeezes its population, demands lock-step obedience, the greater the explosive and bloody back lash that occurs.

You need help. All of you people need help. Really, seek help.

You never fail to live up to the low standards all liberals set for themselves. Ad hominem attacks. Really? Attacking my Native background for what? Racist, and that is just the tip of that little ice berg of yours.

You display why there is no mechanism for achieving any form of agreement. Notice, I did not say compromise. Rights and liberties are not up for compromise. I would agree that you should go your way and I go mine. Unfortunately, you continue down that road to your mother government and have them do your bidding of using extreme violence to bend me to your belief system to become your slave so you can steel the fruits of my labor.

And that is where everything comes apart. The anger, the disgust, the rage, all of it continues to build. Ultimately, all of this will explode in your face. I watched it carry out in another land. Elements of the government chooses sides. Mass graves. The blood flows in the streets. Homes burned to the ground. That is your future for you and your offspring.

I pray you live long enough to watch your family butchered before your eyes and everything that you have stolen and mooched from the earners burned to ashes.

Mother Jones,

It used to be that there were vocational studies in public schools. You know, things like wood working, welding, auto mechanics.

Where did that go? Could it be that all of you liberals were afraid that your child might possibly grow up to be someone with dirt under their nails? So disgusting to you to think that your children might find satisfaction in something like welding or, (my GOD!), ranching, farming or being a vet! Then they might move away from your precious cities and discover liberty, freedom, the beauty of creation. Or, they might start their own business and be their own person. Oh my! Your child has left the collective!!!! They will not bend to the will of the Magic Negro Obama all mighty!!

The liberal goal in public education is that everyone grow up to be just like those liberal professors in our colleges and universities. Because when they are not impregnating their students (creating single mothers) or making someone destroy their moral ethical system, they are someone liberals all look up to. No creativity. No thinking for one's self. Just follow the instructions and continue to color between the lines. Be a good socialist/communist.

You liberals did everything you could to destroy culture in groups you saw as savages. Your Wilson and Roosevelt did everything possible to destroy the tribes and nations of this country by outlawing any instrucation in our languages, our cultures, our stories, our dances, everything that made us the people that we were. Your number one goal was to fashion everyone to be the collective and to be easily manipulated.

Make me your slave and I will slaughter your family. That is all that is left. You have endeavored to take everything away from me that defines me for what I am and drag me away from my ancestors.

Funny thing, you European liberals. We were creating music, carrying cultural trade while you were still scratching your existance out of rocks and dirt. You discovered gun powder and discovered that your power comes from your ability and motivation to destroy. You destroy creeativity and teach tyranny and destruction. The animal you have created will turn on you, with liberal violence and vengeance. As the women of my tribe watched their children tortured by the hand of your government I pray you suffer far more.

These are two good books for deciding on how to educate your children:

The Case for Classical Christian Education

http://www.amazon.com/The-Case-Classical-Christian-Education/dp/1581343841/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1364657426&sr=8-1&keywords=classical+christian+education

The Well-Trained Mind

http://www.amazon.com/The-Well-Trained-Mind-Classical-Education/dp/0393067084/ref=cm_cr_dp_asin_lnk

My tribe had a two-room school house, of sorts. Boys one side, girls on the other. We worked in the mornings (those of us old enough to) and were in the school house after lunch. This was all year. Everyone in the same room young up through 18. Yes, the books are Christian based and if your style is to see RED whenever someone says religion then do not bother with them.

If you want your children to be lock-step members of the collective do not bother with these books. Send them to public school and hope for the best.
