Will you be watching the State of The Union?

This is typically one of the most boring events in the world of politics. There may be two minutes of substantive information to come out of a speech, regardless of which president.

There is only one thing I am interested in (unless he surprises me) and that is whether we will see the "let's all just get along" Obama who will suddenly appeal to the opposition for bi-partisan solutions to our problems or (more likely) will we see a return of Candidate Obama. Placing full blame on Bush and the non-cooperating Republicans in the current House and Senate!!!

We should have started a pool...

Is this a drinking game???? Just to get started:

"Let me be perfectly clear" -- One beer

"I" -- One beer nut

"It was Bush's fault (or variant)" -- One shot

Found some other interesting elements to a drinking game:

Its hard to watch Obama without wanting to become violent. I wish he would just go away. I have never disliked or mistrusted a president as much as I do this one. I think it is because he is so much trying to disguise his true nature which is a progressive radical, and probably a Muslim. This man has wreaked untold havoc on our economy from which we may never recover.

Yeah...I'm here I was a little too busy at work to really post anything else. You were asking what I propose to do about everything that is going on with the economy. Well all I can recommend is make sure you read up on survivalist websites to make sure you are prepared for the worst. I would recommend having enough supplies to last several months. The crash is going to come. It has to happen. The only way it wouldn't is if one day China just forgave our debts, but that won't happen cause that would actually destroy the market as well. Really the honest answer is that we will just have to endure the extreme hardship ahead. The elites have designed this crash so that they won't have to force eugenics on us. They can just let people die from starvation. We will be too weak to fight back. Nice plan huh? Works pretty good in third world countries.

Funny you should mention survival sites, I've had this bookmarked and going through it a little everyday.

Also we have been expanding our garden, canning, etc. I'm still looking for reasonably priced DIY solar systems.

We are on a well but it's run of course by electricity. Well there is an extra drilled well on the back of our property that has never been used and we want to put a hand pump or wind mill pump on it in case we lose power.

The popular mechanics site looks pretty good. I have chickens in with my Pygmy Goats. Pygmy goats seem to be the same deal as the Nigerian Dwarf Goats in the article. I brush the goats regularly and we have learned to weave with the wool. Do not name the goats you intend to eat.

For the coop, use anchor bolts in the slab that you pour (add some 1/4inch REBAR). Makes is easy to attach a structure to the slab. Also, something like a dog kennel is great for chickens. Just put additional chicken wire and tarp over the top (dog kennels are usually open at the top). Keeps the chicken hawks out and gives the chickens a place for protection.

Chickens take care of themselves. Put hay out for them and they will construct their own nest in the coop. It has been down to 10F out here and the chickens do fine in the cold. I have also constructed sturdy lean-to's for the goats. With goats, do construct only sturdy lean-to structures otherwise they will destroy what you build. Start with one structure until you learn how to build for them.

DO NOT TAKE FREE GOATS!!!! That only invites diseases. Find a reputable dealer, usually the same one that works with your local FFA (Future Farmers of America). Oh, and feel free to donate to FFA. It is one of the things left in this country that does a great job with our youth.

Put up Purple Martin houses. Purple Martins keep other predatory nuisance birds at bay. That will be good for your chickens and any crops you try to raise. They especially hate crows and grackles.

I have to deal with Western Coyotes. I recommend large dogs (lab sized or rottie) and use muzzle loaders for shooting them (or a good 30-30 Winchester breathing machine like a Marlin 336). Also, learn to use a cap-n-ball six shooter like a Model 1858 Remington Revolver reproduction. Use the black powder stuff for hunting and predator control. Save your semi-auto ammo like 40S&W, 7.62x39 for the two-legged varmints.

Learn your local vegetation, what you can and cannot survive on. The SAS survival guide has some details on that stuff, though that sort of knowledge is regional. For you coffee lovers, I learned from my tribe long ago how to make Asi. It is a coffee brewed from the leaves of the Yaupon Holly. I roast the leaves in a clay pot over a fire until they turn dark brown. Then I break them up into boiling water to make the brew. It is far more caffeine than that roasted stuff from Brazil.

I learned as a youth to listen to the smaller animals. You have to spend time watching and listening. They communicate. I am not saying they talk to you. But, you need to learn to understand the mechanisms for communication and warning signs. They will communicate to you if you have the patience to learn to understand.
